A hint to anyone who wants to run the application on a machine that does not have ASP.NET MVC 3 installed (like mine that runs under Windows 10 with VS2015 Community edition).
Just use this link:
http://www.asp.net/mvc/mvc3

It installs MVC 3 side-by-side into the GAC then you are good to go!
