Insiders Dev Tour 2018

General pre-requisites

Hardware

  • 1 Drone (DJI Mavick Air around 800USD + tax ) - must be this model (example). Other drones such as DJI Mavic Pro are not supported.

    • If Microsoft employee flying drone, then additional equipment includes:
      • 1 Xbox controller
      • 1 USB cable to connect controller to PC
      • 1 Shark fishing cable to restrain drone
      • Different build of the app - please contact (Vlad Kolesnikov)
  • 1 Windows Mixed Reality headset and controllers (Acer recommended due to flip-up visor, around 400USD + tax) (example)

  • 1 full-size fake yellow bananas (example). A fresh real banana should also work

  • 2 PCs - a 2nd PC is required for the VS Live Share demo - ideally you will have a switcher here to project both screens at once. Failing that you can run on a single PC, but you will need to be extra crisp about the scenario you are showing

  • (optional) IoT button here or here

Software

  • Windows 10
    • April 2018 Update (1803, Build 17134); or, ideally:
    • (optional) Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 17682 or higher (Announce) - consider this to show off new feaures such as Sets, new clipboard

Note: If you are using the pre-built Keynote VHD, then ensure you update to the latest version of the OS and then pause updates afterwards. Also ensure you have the latest updates applied for VS Code, VS, VS Live Share.

  • Visual Studio Community 2017 (Download). Requires following workloads:
    • Web, Win32, UWP

  • Windows Community Toolkit Sample App (Windows Store)
  • Your Phone (included with Windows 10 WIP)
  • (Not required for keynote, only some sessions) Visual Studio Community 2017 Preview (Download)

Considerations

  • Pause machine updates
  • Set Developer mode in Windows Settings
  • Set resolution to 1080p, 125%
  • Remove power and sleep timeouts
  • Increase fonts in Visual Studio, and Visual Studio Code to 18+
